Retreatants

The inmates (also called offenders, prisoners, incarcerated men, convicts, internees, etc.) are selected by the unit or State jail Chaplains to attend a retreat. The prospective inmate retreatants have been given some basic information on the faith-based Kolbe retreats and have expressed a desire to attend a retreat. The unit or State jail Chaplain reviews the list of prospective retreatants and their recent record of conduct. Inmates wishing to attend a Kolbe retreat but having an active case against them (written up by the staff for violating the established rules of conduct) normally are rejected and excluded from the list of retreatants. Therefore, the retreatants who do attend KPM retreats have demonstrated continuing good conduct and a desire to attend a faith-based event.

The size the retreat varies between the different prisons/jails depending on the number of inmates desiring to attend, the number of such desiring inmates with records of good conduct, the capacity of the retreat space, the availability of space, and the size limit acceptable to the prison/jail Warden.
